What donations have we received toward it so far?
We have received a $5,000 commitment from the Campbellsport chamber of commerce, $5000 from Michels corporation, $10,000 from the Windhover Foundation, $10,000 from Campbellsport Building Supply, Free conceptual design from Daniel’s Landscaping, Dr. Dean Uelmen donated his time writing grant requests, the Twohig family donated stone boulders to use on the project, Jeff Lindsley has donated the landscaping, the Moraine Park apprenticeship carpentry program has donated labor… and we have other donation requests that we hope to announce soon. As well as the hundreds if not thousands that donated, participated and helped with the Truck Pull and DodgeBall tournaments over the last 7 years, including of course the Campbellsport Volunteer Fire Department and the Campbellsport Area Chamber of Commerce.
Tell me about the grant that we have received?
We received two grants. One from Michels Corporation and one from the Windhover Foundation.
How is the funding going?
At this time we are still looking for funding and working on completing our exact budget numbers. It’s a large project with several layers. In these economic times the community support has been amazing. As a community this is definitely a positive moment in our history. We are doing this without a penny of public funding! We anticipated doing this in several phases, but all signs point to us having most everything complete and paid for by this July 3rd and 4th parade and picnic.
Do you know how far along the project is?
We anticipate moving the first dirt around May 15th.
Will it be completed before the Fourth of July picnic?
That is our goal.
Do you have a name for the playground yet?
We have not picked the venue yet, but we will be having an auction to name the playground that will raise money for the playground. So at this time it really is “the no name playground.” A large permanent entry with the name of the playground will be posted for all users to see. The highest bidder will name the playground (the name must be approved by our committee.) It could be a family name, a business, or something else. All sponsors and donors will have permanent signage at the playground. This truly is an entire community event.
What will kids have to look forward too?
The playground will have a fort and rustic feel to it. Trex composite decking will be used throughout. It is a very low maintenance, child friendly material that has been used at Noah’s ark and Mount Rushmore. The existing playgrounds will be left up, which already include slides and swings. Slanted bridges, fort areas, more slides, climbing walls, small children (under 5) playing areas, sand boxes, as well as several natural boulders for children to climb on are all part of the new area. Picnic tables and benches will provide a family enviroment within the area.
