Huge Co-ed Dodgeball Tourney Scheduled for Campbellsport

First, the world’s longest brat was made in Campbellsport.  Next the human truck pull contest drew thousands of people to this small community.  Last year Campbellsport became the host of the Wisconsin State Rock, Paper, Scissors championship.  Similar to Don King’s famous saying, “Only in America” many people are now saying “Only in Campbellsport” as the Campbellsport Area Chamber of Commerce (CACC) and the Campbellsport Fire Department (CFD) have organized an officially sanctioned co-ed dodgeball tournament.  It will be held after the parade on July 4, starting at 2pm.

After kicking around and dodging a few new ideas the CACC decided to host this tournament for several reasons.  “One major reason was participation.  Almost everyone knows how to play, and almost anyone can play,” states Larry Koffman of Koffman Auto Body, co-executive director of the Red, White and Blue co-ed dodgeball tournament.  “It will have the same feel of the truck pull.  We are closing down the street and will have three matches going on at once.  It will be like a three ring circus.  Creative Image and Sound has donated their dj services and will offer some great summer tunes for the crowd.  Of course, the background will be the on-going July 3rd and 4th CFD picnic.  Lots of things are planned for people of all ages to do during the co-ed dodgeball tournament.  With the parade before the tournament and the fireworks to follow, I can’t picture a better place to hang out with your family or your friends to mingle and socialize than in Campbellsport on July 4th.”  Larry went on to say,  “It’s going to be awesome.”  The co-ed dodgeball tournament is replacing the popular truck pull tournament.  “We just felt it was time for some fresh energy.  And so we went with a really fun unique sport to watch as well as to play,” Larry confirmed.

The tournament itself is sanctioned by the National Amateur Dodgeball Association.  The winner of the tournament will earn a paid berth to the National Championships in Schaumburg, Illinois on July 21st .  $600 in chamber bucks will go to the top teams.  The best dressed team will also receive a prize.  All players, (up to 10 people per team with a minimum of 3 women and 3 men) will be guaranteed 5 games and free t-shirts.   The entry fee is $50 and will be great exposure for any business, club, high school team, or organization to sponsor at team.

“I can’t wait to have a team in it this year,” says Seamus Garvey who was the Spider Man character who competed in the truck pull last year.  “The super hero team hopes to field a very competitive dodgeball team this year.  What earthlings can compete with super heroes?  Hopefully plastic man will be available to play.”
